I understand what it is to be gay, lesbian, and bisexual, but I don’t really understand what it means to be transgender. What are they all about? Actually, every one of these groups is really complex, but there is often a lot of confusion about people who are transgendered. Part of the confusion is that the term “Transgender” is an umbrella term that describes many different lifestyles. There are Transsexuals (those who switch sexes through surgery and hormonal replacement therapy); Transgenderists (those who live as the opposite sex, but do not necessarily have the surgery); Cross-dressers (who may dress as one sex or the other at any given moment, but who have not changed their biological selves) and Intersexed individuals who at birth were born with both male and female genitalia. And that is just to name a few.
What if I have questions that you have not answered here? We have provided our guests with a Community Forum, where you can ask those tough questions or discuss topics that are important to you. This link is found in the Community Forum link in the top left of the GLBT&F Menu section. Also, don't ignore the opportunity to submit a piece of creative prose or perhaps a poem; make a post on Nattie's Notebook.
